Welcome to this blog,
I am born in the village Moergestel (’77) and now I am living in Tilburg, The Netherlands, where I’m working as an illustrator.
I attended art-school in Tilburg (1999-2004), Granada (Spain) (2001-2002), and Ghent (Belgium) (2005-2008).
In Tilburg and Granada I was primarily educated as a visual artist, working in an autonomous and multi-media way. While finishing art school in Tilburg I won the De Pont prize 2003 for my autonomous work and I was nominated for the Tilburg Stimulation Prize 2003.
After plunging into the process of creativity this way, I started being attracted to making illustrations. I moved to Ghent and started following illustration classes from Carll Cneut. He introduced me to publisher De Eenhoorn in Belgium. From that moment I could start to work professionally on drawing a picture book, which has been written by Inge Misschaert (Balthazar, de eenzaamste ezel ooit). This book appeared in februari 2009. In september 2011 the second picturebook appeared, with a text written by my father!

Lieve Marieke, dankzij je vader werd ik attent gemaakt op deze blog en ik heb ademloos je illustraties bestudeerd……..Wat prachtig,veelzijdig en ontroerend mooi. Ik kan er niet over uit hoe getroffen ik ben door jouw werk ! het “doet” echt iets met mij ! Ik blijf je graag volgen !

Na de leuke sessie gisteren in Vincents Tekenlokaal even naar je blog gesurfd… wat een mooie tekeningen! Ik ben onder de indruk.
